Courses & Credits

COURSES

The ISPM offers two courses to prepare students for today's global business environment. Both courses are taken from the standard business curriculum, so that they are likely to meet the needs of undergraduate business majors and minors. Both courses cover the standard subject mater, but emphasize international issues and examples.

Because US and European credit systems are different, the ISPM offers two options. European and international students registering through the University of Padua will take both courses and earn 10 EU credits. US students registering through the University of Michigan-Dearborn will take either course, but not both, and will earn 3 US credits. US credits will be granted by the University of Michigan - Dearborn; European credits will be granted by the University of Padua.

Both classes include:

  • Lectures by Italian and US professors
  • International comparative studies
  • Guest speakers
  • Company visits
  • Group work
  • Active participation
  • Out of class assignments
  • Analytical projects

HRM 405 - Human Resource Policy and Administration

This class will examine personnel policy making and administration, relative to the achievement of the objectives of the firm through the eyes of general management. Topics include: recruitment and selection, wage and salary administration training, evaluation, discipline and industrial relation activities. Cases are analyzed.

Prerequisites: This intermediate undergraduate course requires previous coursework in organizational behavior or group psychology.

BPS 451 - Strategic Management

This is a comprehensive and integrative capstone course for the undergraduate business student. The central focus of this course is strategic management as opposed to the functional orientation that the student has experienced in most of his/her previous courses. Emphasis is on strategy formulation and implementation. Topics covered include the analysis of a company's external and internal environment; the development of a strategic vision and organizational objectives; the design of strategy at the functional, business, corporate, and international levels; and the creation of the organizational structure, operational policies and procedures, and reward systems.

Prerequisites: This advanced undergraduate course requires previous coursework in finance, organizational behavior, marketing, operations management, accounting, and management information systems.
